What is CiaoSpeak?
CiaoSpeak is a language-learning app for iPhone and Android with three courses: Chinese the way Taiwan speaks it for English speakers, English for learners in Taiwan explained in Traditional Chinese, and English for Japanese adults explained in Japanese. Its main feature is Speak: a character in a real scene asks you one question, you answer out loud, and it counts if a person would understand you. Every lesson is free; CiaoSpeak+ is an optional subscription.

English
CiaoSpeak teaches Traditional Chinese the way Taiwan speaks it, with Taiwan-accent audio, Pinyin or Zhuyin, and real questions you answer out loud. Every lesson is free.
CiaoSpeak is a language app for iPhone and Android. Its Chinese course teaches Traditional Chinese the way Taiwan speaks it: Pinyin or Zhuyin, Taiwan-accent audio, tones and pronunciation from the first lesson, and units labeled with TOCFL levels from Novice to Band B. In Speak, someone in a real Taiwan scene, such as the auntie at a breakfast shop or a taxi driver, asks you one question, and you answer out loud or by typing. If a person would understand you, it counts; if not, you get one gentle fix and a more natural way to say it. CiaoSpeak also has English courses for learners in Taiwan and Japan, explained in Traditional Chinese and Japanese. Every lesson is free, and CiaoSpeak+ is an optional subscription.

- Main feature: Speak
- A character in a real scene asks you one question, and you answer out loud (tap the mic to start, tap again when you're done) or by typing. If a person would understand you, it counts. If not, you get one gentle fix and a more natural way to say it, and the character reacts the way a person would. New questions unlock as you finish lessons, and every sentence you manage to say is kept in your phrasebook.

- Every lesson is free, and so are the mistake review and up to five Speak questions a day. CiaoSpeak+ is an optional subscription (monthly or yearly) that lets you keep practicing in any Speak scene whenever you like (fair-use limits apply), and adds the full phrasebook, the full Stories library and unlimited Quick Practice rounds. Prices differ by country; each store shows the local price before you buy.
